Local communities from the project area and Indonesian NGOs wrote to the Governor of Central Kalimantan Teras Narang pointing out the inadequacies of the Evaluation and the ongoing problems with the project.

In August 2012, the melting of the Arctic sea ice broke the previous record, set in 2007. It did so with three weeks of the melting season still to go. In 2012, the ice is melting at a rate of about 100,000 square kilometres per day. Climate change is accelerating.

A new briefing by the Rainforest Foundation UK argues against creating an international carbon market to finance REDD. The briefing is released just before a UN meeting in Bangkok, that will discuss potential options for financing REDD.

Swedish Society for Nature Conservation: “It is naïve and dangerous to think that REDD will be quick or easy”
In 2010, the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) released a report titled, “New hope for the forests? REDD, biodiversity and poverty reduction”. Although the report is over a year old, REDD-Monitor only recently read it – others may have missed it too.
