Five questions for Air Resources Board’s Dave Clegern about California’s REDD plans

Dave Clegern is a Public Information Officer at the California Air Resources Board, a position he’s held since November 2011. In April this year, he appeared on Capital Public Radio promoting REDD. It was only a short news clip, but it’s revealing none the less.

Last week, the Indigenous Environmental Network held a press conference at COP21 in Paris. Tom Goldtooth, Executive Director of the Indigenous Environmental Network, said, “REDD and other carbon market regimes violate our traditional beliefs”.

Rio Branco Declaration: Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force states and provinces “have received very little financial support”

Governors from 22 states have signed the Rio Branco Declaration, committing to reduce deforestation by 80% by 2020. If they receive a guarantee of “adequate, sufficient, and long‐term performance‐based funding”, that is.
