The forests on the Tripa peatswamp in Aceh should be protected. They are part of the Leuser Ecosystem. They are covered by a logging moratorium in Aceh. At least part of the forest was covered by the Indonesia-Norway moratorium. And they are habitat to the extremely endangered Sumatran orangutan.
A response from Charles Mauro about REDD credits from Mato Grosso: “The credits were withdrawn”
Last week, REDD-Monitor wrote about an offer posted on LinkedIn of 1.5 million vintage REDD credits from Mato Grosso, Brazil. The REDD credits were being offered by Charles Mauro, the CEO of two companies, REDD-Carbon and Iceus Global. REDD-Monitor asked Mauro some questions about the REDD credits.
The Tripa peatswamp in Aceh is ablaze – despite the moratorium
Dozens of fires are blazing in a peatswamp in Aceh, in the north of Sumatra, Indonesia. Some of the hotspots are in a concession area belonging to a company called PT Kallista Alam. According to WALHI, the concession is in breach of Indonesia’s two-year moratorium. The concession is subject to an on-going court case.

SAFI: Forest Department and Merlins Wood process in Pakistan neither consultative nor transparent
In February 2012, REDD-Monitor wrote about a London-based company called Merlins Wood and its REDD-type projects in Pakistan. Sarhad Awami Forestry Ittehad (SAFI), a local NGO, rejected the agreements the company had made in Pakistan. SAFI has now produced a resolution about Merlins Wood.
