Greenpeace starts global consultation on the need for universal REDD+ safeguards

Greenpeace has launched a consultation document on REDD safeguards. Called “Forests & People First”, the initiative proposes a set of minimum safeguard standards for REDD and other forest and climate programmes.

Indigenous Peoples Terra Livre Declaration at Rio +20 rejects REDD

From 15-22 June 2012, 1,800 Indigenous Peoples met at the “Terra Livre Camp”, about two hours from the official Rio +20 meeting. On 19 June 2012 at 2.45 am, the world’s governments at Rio +20 agreed a draft text on “The Future We Want”. If it’s accepted in its current form, Rio +20 will go down in history to be followed inevitably by the word failure.
