Friends of the Earth calls for an open review of the Kalimantan Forest Carbon Partnership
Friends of the Earth Australia has written to the Australian Government calling for “an open review of its failed experiment in climate aid in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia”. The Australian-funded Kalimantan Forest Carbon Partnership was quietly shelved earlier this year.
Australia to replace carbon tax with emissions trading scheme
Australia’s carbon tax started in July 2012. The carbon price was supposed to be fixed until July 2015, at which point it would be replaced by an emissions trading scheme. This week, prime minister Kevin Rudd announced that emissions trading will start a year earlier than planned.

Australia has quietly shelved its Kalimantan Forest Carbon Partnership project. The US$43 million project will be closed before most of the project’s targets have been met.
Al Jazeera reports on “carbon pirate”, David Nilsson, in Peru
Al Jazeera recently picked up the story about David Nilsson’s questionable REDD carbon trading activities in Peru. REDD-Monitor has been following this story since April 2011 when Indigenous organisations AIDESEP and COICA produced a statement condemning Nilsson and demanding that the public prosecutor’s office intervene by expelling Nilsson from Peru.
